Eat your heart out: Three BC food tours rank among the best in Canada

Call us biased, but Vancouver’s food and drink scene is pretty unparalleled. Known for its storied coffee houses, craft breweries, and delicious fare from around the globe – to say that there’s something for everyone in the city would be an understatement. As such, Vancouver also has a ton of culinary tours to experience, including the Gastown Historic Walking Food Tour and the VIP Access Granville Island Market Tour – both of which were recognized as some of the best food tours in the country.

As well, a third tour in BC joins those recognized by Tripadvisor’s sightseeing company, Viator: Victoria Guided Food & History Tour.

The recognition comes from the online tour and travel experience platform, which released its 2023 Viator Experience Awards ranking the world’s top experiences based on “average review ratings, share of bookings with a review, and number of bookings on Viator over a 12-month period from travellers around the world.”

The result? A list of some of the best culinary experiences, outdoor adventures, and natural wonders in the world.

Below are the food tours that were recognized as the best in Canada:

  1. Victoria Guided Food & History Tour
  2. Gastown Historic Walking Food Tour
  3. Beyond the Market Food Tour in Montreal
  4. Evening Gourmet Tour 5-Course Dinner – History and Food in Old Quebec City
  5. Seated Tasting Experience at Konzelmann Winery
  6. VIP Access Granville Island Market Tour
  7. Half-Day Jasper Culture Food Tour
  8. Premium Tasting Experience Transportation and Wine Tastings
  9. Halifax Pedal Pub Crawl Along the Waterfront on a Solar-Powered Pedal Bus
  10. Toronto Food Tour: Taste the World in Kensington Market

Tours & info

Each of the three BC tours has its own offerings. The guided Victoria tour ($89.95 per person) delves into the history of the provincial capital, taking visitors to the Parliament Buildings, the Inner Harbor Causeway, Trounce Alley, Bastion and Market squares, Fan Tan Alley, the Harmonious Gates of Interest, and the Victoria Public Market. Along the way, visitors will stop for tastings of craft beer, chocolate, tea, tapas, cheese, bread, and olive oil – to name a few local eats.

Likewise, the Gastown food tour ($129.15 per person) takes visitors through the cobblestone streets of Vancouver’s oldest neighbourhood, stopping for seven food tastings and three alcohol samplings in total. On the 2.5-hour tour, visitors enjoy local craft beer, Japanese Karage chicken, freshly made Sicilian Tortellini with local wine, vegan sweet & chilli cauliflower, traditional Canadian poutine, organic soft ice cream, decadent waffles and award-winning cheesecake.

Finally, we come to the Granville Island Market Tour ($129.19 per person), which brings guests to one of Vancouver’s most iconic spots, and home to an eclectic mix of eats. Visitors enjoy 20 tastings of local foods like aged cheese, BC wine, truffle salami, donuts, and a twist on Canadian poutine.

So there you have it, BC! Whether you’re looking for tours to suggest to friends and family visiting, or want to do a deeper dive into your own local food & drink scene, these are some great options to consider.
