A Breathtaking view of the Rockies awaits you at the top of this Alberta Gondola

Whether you’re a photographer or are just visiting for the weekend, there are few places that will make your jaw drop and your camera flash quite like the Alberta Rocky Mountains—more specifically Banff, Alberta.

One of the most beautiful small towns in the world, this idyllic destination is a favourite amongst locals and visitors alike, for good reason.

In addition to being the birthplace of Canada’s National Park System, Banff also has several exciting things to see and do including the Banff Gondola.

The Banff Gondola

Described as offering ‘timeless Rocky Mountain views,’ this enchanting experience was originally built between 1958 and 1959, but was reimagined in 2016 by Pursuit.

While the trip only takes eight minutes, there is no shortage of unbelievable things to see on the way up—from hikers, animals, and the trees below, but once at the summit, prepare to be seriously “wowed.”

From the top of Sulphur Mountain, visitors can enjoy incredible food at Sky Bistro, stand by the fire, or walk a historic boardwalk overlooking the town below, surrounded by the Rockies.

Sky Bistro Restaurant

Sky Bistro is a “dining sanctuary in the sky.”

From burgers with apple butter and bacon jam to grilled cauliflower with gochujang BBQ sauce and green apple fennel slaw, there’s a little something for every palate and craving at Sky Bistro, but that’s only half of the reason you should check it out.

The other half is the sweeping view of the mountains—a rare perspective rewarded to those who are brave enough to climb aboard the gondola.

Sulphur Mountain Boardwalk

Have a comfortable pair of sneakers and love fresh air? This sky-high journey is truly one of a kind.

7,500 feet up from its base, this Alberta boardwalk is a tranquil route that leads to an old weather station once used by Norman Sanson – a meteorologist known for walking to the top of the mountain every week for 30 years until age 84.

Looking for a reason to extend your visit?

We’d recommend checking it all out during one of their many festivals and events like Nightrise.

Nightrise 2024-2025

If you’d like to take your trip to new heights, consider visiting before March 30th, 2025.

A series of immersive, interactive art displays that “explore the wonders of the sky,” Nightrise will feature special events with a focus on the lunar cycle and the stories of each full moon.

With lights, colour, and sound, this is unlike anything you’ll see anywhere else.

Want to check it out?

Tickets for the Banff Gondola start at $66 for adults and can be purchased on their website.

Enjoy and happy travelling!

You won’t regret it!
