Apple Maps launches three-dimensional city views in Canada

Apple Maps just launched more “detailed experiences” for select cities in Canada, including Toronto and Vancouver. According to Apple, it is launching 3D city views, fully detailed with enhanced navigation.

Maps dropped its visually appealing 3D details for neighbourhoods, commercial districts, marinas, buildings, and more. In Maps, users can now see custom-designed landmarks such as City Hall in Toronto, and Robson Square in Vancouver, and it also offers a nighttime mode.

“We’re excited for Apple Maps users to explore the beauty and culture of Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver in an incredibly detailed new way,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Services.

Besides its 3D update, Maps also added features for public transit riders that notifies users when they are approaching their stop. According to Apple, Maps also now offers real-time transit, such as current location of a bus or train, as well as info regarding outages.

Drivers using Maps will also notice some updated features, including showing road-level views, helping users to see the best lane for an approaching exit.

As well, the new iOS 15 enables users to explore curated guides in Maps. There are over two thousand curated guides that include recommendations from Canadian brands such as us, Curiocity, to global brands like Lonely Planet.

Apple says that “Curated Guides can be saved, and they are automatically updated when new places are added, so users always have the latest recommendations. Users can even create their own personal Guides of favourite places to share with friends and family.”
