As far as Canadians are concerned, this could be one of the most controversial rankings ever published. Icelandair included just one Canadian city in a ranking of the world’s 20 most tranquil destinations, and it’s not exactly the first place that comes to mind when you think of peaceful environments.
The ranking intends to bring awareness to World Mental Health Day and a study by the American Psychological Association showing how the pandemic has impacted mental health, according to Travel + Leisure.
Icelandair looked at a variety of factors that influence the quality of life in a big city, like the amount of green space, noise pollution, and traffic congestion it has. Average life expectancy, weather, and happiness indexes were also taken into account.
Included in the list is Toronto in 16th place, sandwiched between Christchurch, New Zealand and San Jose, Costa Rica. Toronto is known for its vast network of ravines and trails, but not for its weather and definitely not for its light traffic. However, Toronto’s overall score was apparently high enough to beat out any other city in the country.

Toronto has enjoyed a lot of warm and sunny weather recently, but perhaps the brutal early blast of winter forecasted in the coming weeks will send it further down the list.
The city does, however, have many super relaxing spas to combat your construction noise-induced migraines, so that definitely adds to its appeal as a tranquil destination.
Toronto has been receiving a ton of worldwide recognition as of late. It was recently ranked the second safest in the world, and the best city on Earth for working remotely. Clearly, the 6ix is making a name for itself even without Drake’s help.
