One of Ontario’s most popular parks is not to be missed, especially in the winter. Although you can enjoy Algonquin Provincial Park in any season, Ontario’s wilderness stands out even more in cold temperatures, believe it or not. And what better way to enjoy it than by strolling along a new trail? The Fork Lake Trail is the latest addition to the park, and here’s what to know.
With already over 100 kilometres of hiking trails that guide you past unique and abandoned vistas, Algonquin Provincial Park has added just one more experience.
Located about three and a half hours northeast of Toronto is Algonquin Provincial Park, one of the most notable parks in the province. Known for its camping, fishing, boating, canoeing and wildlife spotting opportunities in the summer, Algonquin is a must-visit if you have not yet explored it.
Though it’s home to many trails with different levels of difficulty, the one you need to explore is the Fork Lake Trail.
According to Ontario Parks, this adventure is a 2.4 km-long loop and is accessed from the Visitor Centre parking lot. It is rated as difficult, though, so it’s best to wear the proper footwear.
It features steep climbs from lake level to high hilltops with scenic views, according to The Friends of Algonquin Park.
Ontario Parks states that the cost of a Day Use permit depends on the time of the year, whether it is on or off-season, and by park. Entry fees for vehicles start at $12.25, but for Algonquin Provincial Park in the winter season, the cost is $18.58 plus tax. For park-specific fees, contact the park directly.
Before it gets too snowy out there, check out this new trail. It’s a perfect excuse to explore the great outdoors!
