If you’ve never been to Elliott Tree Farm during the holidays, this is your sign. Open since the 1980s, and only an hour from Toronto, this special spot turns into an experience that feels like stepping into a Hallmark movie.
Most people come here to shop for free-cut Christmas trees, but there are also cozy bonfires to sit around, dining in the Horse Barn Canteen, and a magical gift shop.
There’s also no entry or parking fee, and no reservations are required to visit.
Christmas trees are priced according to the type and whether you’re cutting it yourself. Pre-cut trees are available in Fraser Fir or Balsam Fir. If you’re cutting your own tree, your options are Blue Spruce, White Spruce, Norway Spruce, and Canaan Fir. Trees start at 5 feet and go all the way to 14 feet.
Christmas tree customers also get access to something extra special: Santa’s Cabin. The cabin is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Santa and Mrs Claus will be in the cabin from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. the first two weekends in December, too.
All that tree searching is sure to work up an appetite, so make sure you head over to the Horse Barn Canteen. The canteen is open every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Dec. 23, serving up delicious treats and warm drinks. Oh, and there’s a waffle bar (a VERY important detail). Enjoy toppings like golden, amber, or dark maple syrup, whipped cream, candy cane sprinkles, crushed candy cane, and butter. Yum.
Over at the Heritage Barn, you can get some holiday shopping done. The barn dates back to the 1800s, and you can shop for wreaths, pure maple syrup, tree stands, trinkets, home goods, and much more.
My favourite part of visiting Elliott Tree Farm this time of year is the bonfires set up all around the property. The fires are surrounded by Muskoka chairs, so you can nestle up and lounge for a mid-day break.
You’ll leave full of Christmas cheer, waffles, and smelling of fresh pine. Does it get any better than that?
