Alberta will require vaccine QR codes starting Monday – here’s what to know

It’s only been two months since the government officially launched Alberta’s Restriction Exemption program and we’ve already seen a few different ways to share our immunization status with those who require proof. From the newly released app to wallet-sized vaccine passports, verifying that you got the jab has continued to become easier and more convenient.

Next week the province will, yet again, see another change in the way we go to and enjoy certain public places.

As a reminder, Alberta’s previously accepted, easy-to-replicate vaccine card will be discontinued to make way for a new document with an easy-to-scan QR code.

As of November 15th, Albertans over the age of 12 who plan on going to select restaurants and bars, concerts, or shows must be able to show their individual Alberta QR code upon entry. Old documents will no longer be accepted.

To download the new Alberta vaccine QR code, all you have to do is head to the Government’s website here, enter your Alberta Health Care number, birthdate, and the month you received your last vaccine and press confirm. If you’re an iPhone user, it’s also simple to have the Alberta QR code added right to your Apple Wallet.

After downloading your record, just make sure that you have it on you at all times either on paper or on your phone to avoid being denied entry into your favourite eateries or gyms.

For more information about the Alberta vaccine passport, you can visit the official government website here.
