The Prairies have become a hotspot for production companies and Hollywood legends, but what’s next? From The Last of Us to Inception, Rocky mountaintops, cities, and small towns across Wild Rose Country have been featured in major projects, and it won’t be long until we can play ‘I Spy’ once more. The Order

Love thrilling cinema? Based on the non-fiction book ‘The Silent Brotherhood’ by Kevin Flynn and Gary Gerhardt, The Order will tell the story of FBI agent Terry Husk as he pursues a white supremacy group believed to be behind a series of violent robberies.

Starring Jude Law (Sherlock Holmes), Nicholas Hoult (The Menu), Tye Sheridan (X-Men: Dark Phoenix), and Jurnee Smollett (Birds of Prey), this Alberta-shot film features several recognizable locations, including Drumheller, Calgary’s Palace Theatre and North Hill Centre, as well as the Rocky Mountains.

When: Coming to theatres Dec. 6, 2024

Die, My Love 

Starring Jennifer Lawrence (The Hunger Games), Robert Pattinson (The Batman), and LaKeith Stanfield (Sorry to Bother You) ‘Die, My Love’ was co-written and directed by Lynne Ramsay, who is best known for We Need To Talk About Kevin.

Described as following a mother struggling to “maintain her sanity as she battles with psychosis,” this horror dramedy was filmed in Calgary this fall.

When: TBA

The Abandons

Starring Gillian Anderson (The Crown) as well as Lena Headey (Game of Thrones), The Abandons is a Western action drama that follows a group of atypical families who are driven out of their homes by a corrupt force. The cast and crew will be in town until October 18th, 2024.

When: Coming to Netflix TBA

JonBenét Ramsey (Mini-Series)

Based on the well-known JonBenét Ramsey case, the chilling mini-series will star Academy Award nominees Melissa McCarthy (Can You Ever Forgive Me?) and Clive Owen (Closer).

According to Paramount+ the upcoming project will be produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios and will be party-directed by Anne Sewitsky (Presumed Innocent).

While it’s unclear when the 8-episode series will premiere, the Directors Guild of Canada (DGC) has confirmed they will be in town filming until Feb. 12, 2025.

My Life with the Walter Boys – Season 2

They’re back! Based on the beloved young adult novel by Ali Novak, My Life With The Walter Boys filmed its second season in Calgary this past summer.

The show follows Jackie (played by Nikki Rodriguez) a teen struck by tragedy and forced to start over on a Colorado ranch occupied by 12 boys.

Sarah Rafferty (Suits) and Marc Blucas (Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Swagger), Noah LaLonde (Asbury Park), Ashby Gentry (Are You Afraid of the Dark?), Connor Stanhope (Smallville), Johnny Link (Dear Edward), and Corey Fogelmanis (Ma) will also appear in the show’s second installment.

When: Coming to Netflix in 2025
