A new A24 horror movie is filming in Alberta with Edmonton-born ‘Skinamarink’ director

Wild Rose Country is no stranger to major productions, but this time around, A24 has brought the lights, cameras, and action to the prairies.

Known for wildly successful films, including Babygirl, Midsommar, and Everything Everywhere All At Once, A24 is currently working on a new horror flick with Central Pictures, SpectreVision, Tatiana Bears, Bruno Vernaschi Berman, Theo Vieljeuxand, and one of Alberta’s very own.

Until April 24, Kyle Edward Ball, who terrified audiences with Skinamarinkwill be shooting The Land of Nod in Edmonton and Yellowknife, so keep your eyes open — if you dare.

Official details of the plot are currently under wraps, but the YEG-born writer and director sure knows how to spook an audience.

In 2023, Rolling Stone called Skinamarink  “the best horror movie” of the year, despite its micro budget of only $15,000.

Outranking No One Will Save You and M. Night Shyamalan’s Knock at the Cabin, the Edmonton-shot movie follows two children who have woken in the middle of the night to find their father missing. As the doors and windows in their house disappear one by one, they realize they’re not alone.

Excited to see how he follow’s up his last film? Hopefully, it won’t be long until it hits screens big and small.

There’s no word yet on when it will premiere, but we’ll keep you updated as more information (including the cast list) is released.

In the meantime, cinephiles can also look forward to other Alberta-shot projects!

In addition to Reminders of Him, which is based on the popular book by Colleen Hoover, Billy the Kid has also begun shooting its third season in the area.

It will be an exciting couple of months, movie lovers, so prepare yourselves!

You never know what or who you’ll see out and about.
