A cat just won an Alberta tourism award for its outstanding Instagram profile

It isn’t out of the ordinary for someone to claim that they’re only a dog person because “you just can’t take a cat anywhere,” but we digress! Felines can actually be incredibly adventurous – just look at Gary, an Insta famous cat who’s seen almost every mountain peak and valley in the Rockies.

With nearly 400,000 followers on the platform, this long-haired angel has been pictured in and around Banff, Canmore, and Kananaskis, a heck of a lot calmer than we’d imagine a domestic feline to be with his feet in the snow.

What’s even more surprising is that this is actually the case no matter the season or the activity. From canoeing to helicopter rides, hikes, and even on the ski hill, this Alberta-born kitty has seen and done some incredible things alongside his human, James Eastham; all while showcasing Alberta’s most beautiful destinations.

In fact, in a recent Instagram story, the duo revealed that they just received a local award for their “outstanding contributions to the tourism and hospitality industry,’ which is pretty incredible.

So there you have it nay-sayers. Despite their chilly demeanour, some cats are open to exploration and wearing sunglasses, sweaters, and posing for photos. It’s rare, but it’s possible.

In closing, a big congrats to Gary and James for being as successful as they are and for making us feel like we need to get out more.

If you’d like to follow them on Instagram (and we highly suggest you do) you can find their page here, but be wary if you get any ideas! We definitely can’t promise that your cat will also be willing to put on a pair of skis for a photo in -20 weather.
