Here’s a list of Calgary parks that will allow alcohol as of June 1st

Crack a cold one, YYC, because we’ve got a whole lot to celebrate and a lot more room to do so! If you weren’t already aware, as of Tuesday, June 1st, the city will finally allow people to drink in select Calgary parks as part of a pilot project to get people out, about and socializing safely.

Now, before you hit the liquor store with a car full of picnic supplies, it’s not as simple as just buying a 6 pack and taking a seat on the grass.

In order to regulate and monitor the project, the city asks that everyone book a picnic table through their website here. This is a pain but could affect whether officials choose to make this a permanent thing or not.

In addition to this, it is important to be mindful of Calgary’s rules for public sippin’.

These rules and requests are as follows:

Drink in moderation and be a good neighbour. Public intoxication will not be tolerated!
The AGLC Act allows for alcohol consumption only at designated sites, cannot be carried around the park – it must stay at the table.
A person must stop consuming liquor in a designated picnic area if a Calgary Police officer or community peace officer believes that they are intoxicated and requests that they stop consuming liquor.
Don’t drink and drive.
All COVID-19 provincial health restrictions must be followed, including gathering limits and physical distancing requirements.
Please consider wearing a mask with those outside your household and maintain good hand hygiene.
Remove all garbage and empty drink containers from the site before you leave the table.

Alright, now that you’re educated let’s get to the good stuff.

As we mentioned earlier, this pilot project will only take effect in designated areas at assigned picnic tables. For your convenience, we’ve actually listed these parks below, but there’s one more thing to note. When booking, you’ll only be allowed to reserve a spot between the hours of 11 am and 9 pm for a maximum of two hours, but that’s plenty of time, so choose wisely and enjoy!
