From High River and Calgary to Canmore and Edmonton, camera crews and cast for HBO’s The Last Of Us have probably seen more of Alberta than most Albertans at this point, but we’ll show and tell as long as they keep rolling! Next stop on their post-apocalyptic tour? The town of Okotoks – located minutes outside of Calgary.

According to a filming notice shared by a resident, then posted by @hbosthelastofus on Instagram, set dressing will begin on Monday, January 31st in the neighbourhood of Suntree.

“Prep work will include bringing in some trees, grass, and greenery as well as creating additional snow,” the notice states.

This, of course, isn’t unlike what we’ve seen draped and sprinkled in or around other very public sets for the show. After all, what says “catastrophe” quite like overgrowth?

Starring Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian) and Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones), The Last Of Us follows Joel, a smuggler who is tasked with escorting a young girl to a safe zone years after a virus wipes out civilization as they know it.

Based on a popular video game of the same name, will take place in a desolate America, taken back by nature – so we’re excited to see the results of the community’s inevitable makeunder when they begin filming on February 7th.

For those in the area, please prepare for partial road closures (between February 4th and 15th) between Suntree Lane and 500 Suntree Place to Robinson Drive and 29 Suntree Lane, as well as in Suntree Park.

As always, keep your eyes peeled, media lovers. You never know what or who you’ll see in Alberta between now and when they wrap for season 1 in July of 2022.
