A couple of weeks back, we let you know that a seriously rare partial lunar eclipse was happening in Canada this month. Well folks, guess what- today (or rather tonight) is when it actually goes down. Sure, you might have to stay up past your bedtime, but if the skies are clear, it’s going to be worth it.
Fun fact- not only is this the longest partial lunar eclipse in 580 years, but it’s also going to produce some spooky colours. Since the earth will block 98% of the sun’s light, the remaining amount will transform that big ol’ ball of cheese into a ‘blood moon’, giving it a deep red hue. Nice!

According to NASA, the eclipse will last almost a full 3 and a half hours, with the really crazy sights starting around 2 hours into it. Now, here’s where the commitment comes in, since the eclipse won’t even start until around 2 AM EST/12 AM MST/11 PM PST tonight. So yeah, if you’re out east, maybe even get some shuteye and set a super early alarm instead.
