There’s not much better of a feeling than walking into a new restaurant in your city and knowing that you’re in for a treat. So, the newest list of Canada’s Best New Restaurants, courtesy of Air Canada and OpenTable, should give at least some of our readers a spot or two to visit!

Announced today, the list returns after a hiatus in 2020. Over 30 panelists, all of which are insiders in their own right, were involved in making the rankings. And, that breadth of knowledge has definitely been reflected in the list, which ranges from new bars to innovative concepts and even producers.

Toronto ended up being the only city with two winners this year. The new French restaurant Pompette got the nod for best fine dining, while the aptly named Sunny’s Chinese landed best new takeout spot in the country. So, if you live in Toronto, it looks like your next night out, or movie night in, is covered.

Meanwhile, Calgary’s own JinBar reigned supreme for the best new bar category, thanks to an inventive, fusion-focused menu that has everything from tuna crudo to beef bulgogi pizza.

Surprisingly, Vancouver (and even all of BC) didn’t get a single pick this year in any category. Maybe the 3 winners in the Top 10 in 2019 had them pumping the brakes this year, but we’re not sure.

The entire list is as follows:

Best Fine Dining – Pompette, Toronto
Best Takeout – Sunny’s Chinese, Toronto
Best Bar Dining – JinBar, Calgary
Best Hotel Restaurant – Terre, St. John’s, NL
Best Tapas North of 60 – BonTon & Company, Dawson City, YT
Best Trailblazer – Tropikal Restobar, Montreal
Best Farm-to-Table – Bika, Saint-Blaise sur Richeliu, QC
