This charming new hotel in Niagara-on-the-Lake has an unbelievable spa

Something new has arrived on the main street of a historic town in Ontario’s wine country. Famous for being one of Canada’s most picturesque destinations, Niagara-on-the-Lake is worth a visit for the scenery alone — adding to its charm is the newly-opened 124 on Queen hotel and spa.

The elegant 70-room hotel occupies six heritage-style buildings in the heart of the community. Every room is a little bit different, but the thoughtful details and luxe amenities are all the same.

The crown jewel of 124 on Queen is without a doubt the 12,000-square-foot destination spa.

In addition to the wide range of treatments and services, the spa features a hydrotherapy circuit with hot and cold pools, saunas, steam rooms, sensory experience showers, and even a snow room.

An outdoor yoga and meditation area, spa cabanas, a salt cave, and reflecting pools will be installed in the second phase of the hotel’s development.

Also opening this summer at the hotel is a cocktail bar on the ground floor, with a speakeasy atmosphere unlike anything else you’ll find in this quaint little town.

Across from the bar area is a main-floor seating area and lounge, which will eventually serve as a coworking space.

You don’t need to be an overnight guest at 124 on Queen to enjoy the amenities. You can buy a pass to the spa and hang out at the cocktail bar even if you’re just visiting for the day.

A pass to the hydrotherapy circuit costs $90 for 120 minutes, or as an add-on to your treatment for $30.

Foodies will be happy to know that 124 on Queen is nestled right in between two of the most established restaurants in Niagara-on-the-Lake — Treadwell Cuisine and The Gate House Bistro.

Treadwell is known for its farm-to-table cuisine and local wine selection made by artisan producers from the Niagara region, plus a recently-expanded outdoor patio overlooking the shared courtyard and gardens. It’s also open for breakfast seven days a week.

The Gate House Bistro serves lunch and dinner in one of the town’s most historic properties, which doubles as an event venue. Lunch and dinner are available from Wednesday to Friday, and brunch is served on Sundays only.

And we need not mention the hotel’s close proximity to Ontario’s best wineries.

So, if you’re planning to make use of Ontario’s staycation tax credit this year, this getaway spot is just as good in the winter as it is in the summer.
