Happy Thursday, Vancouver! We’ve got a couple of scorching days ahead, but we’re hoping things will cool down to cap the weekend off. Either way, there are a ton of indoor and outdoor options this weekend, and we’ve got some top picks to share with you.

Here are 10 of the best things to do this weekend in and around Vancouver.

Festival Afloat

Here’s a pretty unique music experience! This weekend, a fundraiser concert put on by the RAVEN Trust will take place off Jericho Beach. Some live music as you’re floating along during magic hour? Now that sounds like a pretty amazing evening.

When: Saturday, August 14th at 7PM
Where: Off Jericho Beach
Cost: By donation

Voxel Bridge

Turns out, this new artwork from the Vancouver Biennale is exactly the largest of its kind in the world! Some 19,000 square feet of space has been transformed under the Cambie Street bridge, and it blends real-world graphics with some impressive AR technology.

When: Open throughout the weekend
Where: Cambie Street Bridge Underpass
Cost: Free to access

Chilliwack Corn Maze

On the other hand, a trip to the corn maze is about as classic as activities get. The massive Chilliwack Corn Maze is set to open this weekend, and as always there’s a new design to explore! This year, look forward to a very cute forest setting, alongside the word ‘WANDER’.

When: Opens Saturday, August 14th
Where: 41905 Yale Road W, Chilliwack
Cost: $14.50+ for GA

Spot a shooting star

Turns out that this is a great week to have your head in the clouds. The Perseid Meteor Shower is taking place for the next few days, and it looks like we’ve got some clear weather to check them out! If you need a viewing spot, then we’ve got you covered.

Walk in the footsteps of a culinary legend

It’s a pretty simple rule that if you like food, then chances are you like Anthony Bourdain. So, why not enjoy some of his top picks in the city this weekend? While his visit took place over 10 years ago, all 4 of his go-to’s are still kicking around!

Outdoor Summer Series

Vancouver’s premier documentary film fest, DOXA, has announced even more outdoor screenings of some of this year’s best submissions! The Outdoor Summer Screenings are two evenings filled to the brim with relatively short (under 30 mins) selections from this year’s festival.

When: Thursday, August 12th and Friday, August 13th
Where: VPL South Plaza, 350 West Georgia Street
Cost: Free with registration

Bike to Shop

Half our friends are at least casually into cycling, and we think this is a great option for them. This initiative from HUB Cycling offers people a bunch of free stuff and sweet deals all around the city. And to access it, all you have to do is register.

When: On throughout the weekend
Where: Locations around Vancouver
Cost: Free with registration

Vancouver Mural Fest

Things are more or less back to normal for the Vancouver Mural Festival this year, with local art tours, musical performances, and a pop-up patio all planned for it. And of course, it also means dozens of new public art murals going up, too.

When: On throughout the weekend
Where: 2105 Main Street
Cost: Varies per event

Shipyards Live

New for this year, Shipyards Live is an ongoing concert and market series taking place at the Lonsdale Quay. Do some shopping, try a food truck, and hit the beer garden as you enjoy the sounds of some fantastic local artists. And, best of all, it’s free to attend!

When: Friday and Saturday weekly
Where: Lonsdale Quay Area

Hike up Grouse Mountain

Of course, we couldn’t forget the Grouse Grind as a summer option. Not so easy that you’ll cruise through it, but not so hard that you’ll be wondering if heading there was a good idea in the first place. Plus, the need to purchase a download ticket assures some rest and relaxation once your climb is complete.

When: Open throughout the weekend
Where: Grouse Mountain
Cost: $20 (for the download ticket)

That’s what we have in mind for this weekend, Vancouver!
