Well, folks, the weekend has come and gone, and we’re looking at the start of another fun week in the city. While the temperatures might be dipping, we’re not fazed, because we’ve got a ton of great activities and events to enjoy around the city. Let’s see what’s out there,

Here are 10 of the best things to do in Edmonton this week.

GO SLEDDING

We’re actually hoping that we get some snowfall this week. Why? Because we recently put out a guide to the best places to go sledding around the city, and we’re ready to make the most of it.

CHECK OUT CULINA ON THE LAKE

Hawrelak Park has no shortage of winter activities to enjoy, from hiking to skating and even cross-country skiing. Whatever you end up doing, make sure to swing by the Culina on the Lake patio for some delicious eats and adult beverages once you’re done.

When: Open Wednesday to Sunday weekly

THE DUNGAREES

At the time of writing, this concert is still on! The Dungarees come out of Edmonton, but have brushed shoulders with some of the biggest names in country music (Blake Shelton and Zac Brown Band to name a couple). Live music opportunities are few and far between right now, so we’re super excited about this one.

When: Friday, January 21st
Where: 10030 – 102 Street
Cost: $10+

LASER FLOYD: DARK SIDE OF THE MOON

Is a laser show a piece of art? We’re going to go ahead and say yes. Every weekend, the Telus World of Science hosts a nostalgic (but still stunning) laser show set to, really, the best band for it- Pink Floyd. Whether you’ve been a fan of their music for years, or want to try something new, this is a great option.

When: Fridays and Saturdays throughout January
Where: 11211 142 Street NW
Cost: $14.95 for GA

DEEP FREEZE: A BYZANTINE WINTER FEST

Deep Freeze officially kicked off over the weekend, and will be going strong all week long! This winter festival offers everything from outdoor art installations to workshops and food experiences, so no matter what you’re in the mood for, it’s worth seeing.

HOT BOY SUMMER: THE MUSICAL

Want to get a couple of laughs in this week? You might be interested in the extended run of this comedy musical put on by the Grindstone Theatre. Enjoy a satirical look at the past few months/years in the province, through the lens of a year-end university party.

When: Showtimes throughout the week

Cost: $40

CHINATOWN DINING WEEK

This is your last chance to check out Chinatown Dining Week! This neighbourhood food festival offers a ton of delicious dining options, and all for $18 or less. Things wrap up this weekend, and we highly suggest you take advantage this week.

When: Ends Sunday, January 23rd

SNOW VALLEY

Edmonton has no shortage of local ski hills for you to check out. Our pick for this week is Snow Valley, which offers a great spot for those just getting into the sport. The vast majority of the hill is beginner or intermediate, so you don’t have to worry about accidentally stumbling onto a black diamond run.

When: Open throughout the week
Where: 13204 Rainbow Valley Road NW

ACC ICE WALL

Edmonton’s Ice Wall has returned for another season! This unique attraction is the perfect combination of the thrills of ice climbing without all the, you know, inherent danger of it. Whether you’re already into climbing or just wanna try something new, they’ve got options for everyone.

When: Open throughout the week
Where: 9613 96 Avenue NW
Cost: $19+

GO SKATING

One thing’s for sure- Edmonton’s skating rinks are going to be frozen solid for quite some time. Bring a Thermos of hot chocolate with you, go for a skate, and then really feel like you earned a night inside binge-watching movies or TV shows. That’s what we do, at least.

When: Open throughout the weekend
Where: All around Edmonton

Those are our picks for this week, Edmonton! We hope that you enjoy yourselves over the next few days!
