Well, Edmonton, the temperatures might be dipping this week, but our spirits are staying high. Whether you’re hoping to brave the elements or avoid them completely, we’ve got some great options for you around the city.
Here are 10 of the best things to do in Edmonton this week.
CHECK OUT A BEAUTIFUL NEW BAKERY
Chances are high that you’ve heard of Ayco Bakery before… it’s become a staple spot for grabbing a snack and a drink in West Edmonton Mall. But, the folks behind it have recently opened the new Ayco Cafe in downtown Edmonton, and the results are downright beautiful! Ayco Cafe is open for breakfast and lunch daily, so make sure that you check this new spot out sooner rather than later.
Hours: Open daily, 7 AM-5 PM
Where: 10551 Jasper Avenue NW
ART GALLERY OF ALBERTA
A new exhibition has arrived at the AGA! Admittedly not the most happy-go-lucky of options, Inheritance is a group show focusing on the legacies of racism in both social and institutional ways. But, we like it when art actually makes us think just as much as being pretty, so we definitely think it’s worthwhile.
When: Open Wednesday to Sunday
Where: 2 Sir Winston Churchill Square
Cost: $14
GO SLEDDING
If Edmonton manages to get any significant amount of snow this month, then we’re making a bee-line to the local hill. Care to join in? Don’t worry, because we’ve rounded up some of the best sledding hills in the city for your convenience!

OR CROSS COUNTRY SKIING
Speaking of snow, for an even more intense outdoor activity this week, you can always try your hand at cross-country skiing in some of Edmonton’s best parks! Our advice is to check in with your more outdoorsy friends or your parents and see if they’re willing to lend you some gear, too.
When: Open throughout the week
Where: All around Edmonton
HIT A GOLF SIMULATOR
On the other hand, those hoping to stay indoors might enjoy this open a little more. We won’t hesitate to say that golf simulators are the best way to get your ‘beginner’ (aka haven’t been playing for a decade) friends into the sport.
When: Open throughout the week
Where: Multiple locations
Cost: $35+/hour
TELUS WORLD OF SCIENCE
There’s always something fun going on at the Telus World of Science, but we’ve got two things in mind here. First, their IMAX theatre is a great way to experience a classic movie, a new blockbuster, or a stunning documentary. Second, the Zeidler Dome has laser shows that are, frankly, out of this world.
When: Open Wednesday to Sunday
Where: 11211 142 Street NW
Cost: $31.45 for GA
ICE ON WHYTE
The Ice on Whyte Festival is back. All week long, Canada’s best ice sculptors will be creating stunning pieces all along Whyte Ave. Whether you’re taking a peek during a shopping trip, checking them out before or after dinner one night, or just going to see them by themselves, this is a great option in Edmonton early this month.
When: On until February 6th
Where: Whyte Avenue
Cost: $6 for GA
ACC ICE WALL
Edmonton’s Ice Wall has returned for another season! This unique attraction is the perfect combination of the thrills of ice climbing without all the, you know, inherent danger of it. Whether you’re already into climbing or just wanna try something new, they’ve got options for everyone.
When: Open throughout the week
Where: 9613 96 Avenue NW
Cost: $19+
LEARN HOW TO THROW AN AXE
For those who really want to mix things up this weekend, we suggest a little axe-throwing session! Head down with that special someone or some friends and toss axes in a way that won’t have your mom calling you in a panic afterward.
When: Open throughout the week
Where: 13931 156 Street
Cost: $25+ per person
MUTTART CONSERVATORY
One of the most unique buildings in the city doubles as a beautiful indoor garden, and it’s often the first thing we think of when we need to take a break from winter’s chilly embrace. With cold on the horizon, a return might just be in order!
When: Open throughout the week
Where: 9626 96a Street NW
Tickets: $14.95 for GA
Those are our picks for this week, Edmonton!
