More snow on the horizon in Edmonton? You bet! We’re in for a true wintry weekend ahead of Family Day, but we’re not bothered by it. In fact, it gives us way more options to enjoy, both inside and out!

ART GALLERY OF ALBERTA

The AGA is getting not one, but two new exhibits this weekend! The artist Byron Samson (Mistikonâpêw) does incredible portraits of Indigenous leaders, while Maud Lewis is recognized as one of the most prominent folk artists in Canadian history.

WIPEOUT

For something a little more high energy, Evolution Wonderlounge is hosting a big drag show this weekend! Eight different performers will be taking the stage and strutting their stuff, guaranteeing an amazing (and impressive) night out with friends.

CHECK OUT METRO CINEMA

After an extended hiatus, Metro Cinema is reopening its doors once more this week! If you’re looking for something indoors to do this weekend, then this is our top pick. Who doesn’t love a movie out with some buttery popcorn to match, after all.

THAT’S ENTERTAINMENT! CELEBRATING THE HOLLYWOOD FILM MUSICAL

On a similar note, live music is back at the Winspear Centre. First up is a salute to some of the most notable movie soundtracks ever made, ranging from West Side Story to Chicago.

SILVER SKATE FESTIVAL

INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF WINTER CINEMA

This is technically part of Silver Skate, but we feel like it deserves a special mention. Showing a wide variety of films with a very simple connecting concept (the winter) this is the only festival in the world that is both free and shows movies on an snow screen!

GET SLEDDING

This food and drink festival in Old Strathcona is a great way to enjoy Edmonton’s culinary scene. We’re the first to admit that we’ve used lattes, hot chocolate and baked goods to eat (and drink) our emotions more than a few times this winter.
