Dream of owning your little slice of paradise? Those willing to take a risk could find it in the European region of Molise, where one adorable town is currently selling houses for less than a cup of coffee.
Located about 2 and a half hours from Naples, Sant’Elia a Pianisi, Italy has recently adopted the 1-euro house plan, a revitalization strategy used by destinations all over the country to reverse depopulation – this time, however, there’s a catch.

With 8 houses for sale, the hope is that these properties are renovated within the next 3 years – which, of course, is a gamble, but potentially profitable for those who know a thing or two about house flipping.
As we mentioned, though – this go-around, the acquisition of these homes will be done a bit differently.
In order to ensure work is actually done, the mayor of the town will require a bank or insurance surety policy of €5,000 or $7202.58 CAD as explained in detail in the guidelines.
In addition, if more than one person is interested in buying a property, it will be given to the buyer who intends to use local workers and materials – or has the means to finish the project in a shorter amount of time.
