You can race a ‘Flying Canoe’ downhill at this Edmonton event this winter

One of Edmonton’s most interesting events is coming back, and you can be a part of it! Flying Canoe Volant will be touching down in the city this February, and registration has opened for their very interesting races/triathlon. Thinking of hopping in a canoe this winter? Here’s what to know about it.

Taking place at the Edmonton Ski Club for one day only, the Flying Canoe Volant Races will have teams of 4 face off in a seriously Canadian way. Participants will race down a ski hill in a canoe (which, thankfully, is provided), before testing their mettle with 2-person bucksaw and axe throwing.

Aside from dressing for a day outdoors, teams are required to bring one other thing with them to the event. And that’s a 3×2 foot flag representing them, to be flown on the back of the canoe during the race. Already, we’re wondering what kinds of zany stuff we’re going to see zipping down the course.

Or, maybe we’ll just get our own going. Registration has now opened, with the cost for a team of 4 sitting at $160. If you’re thinking this is the year you finally try it out, just click the link below!
