Dolly Parton once performed one of Rogers Place’s first sold-out concerts

Dolly Parton spent decades captivating fans around the world with her unmistakable voice, country hits and larger-than-life presence. Edmonton was no exception, with the beloved singer-songwriter and actress drawing a sold-out crowd to Rogers Place nearly 10 years ago.

According to Rogers Place, Edmonton was lucky enough to be a part of Parton’s musical journey on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016. Parton had made an appearance at what was the recently opened Rogers Place. This stop marked one of her eight tour stops in Canada.

“Despite it being nearly 50 years since Parton first broke out onto the music scene in Nashville, her voice did not diverge from those of the memories her millions of fans have come to know and love,” reads Rogers Place’s post-concert wrap-up, back in 2016.

“As the first Canadian venue to sell out the tour, Rogers Place was a packed house of fans ranging over multiple generations.”

Dolly Parton’s passing

On Tuesday, Aug. 25, Bryan Seaver, Parton’s nephew, announced the passing of the legendary singer-songwriter.

Seaver served as Parton’s head of security for more than two decades. He shared that while the role Parton bestowed upon him is an honour, it’s mixed with great pride and sadness.

“Dolly is in the light and is in the arms of Jesus, surely met by Carl, her parents, and countless others who have watched her and longed for her to meet them in the heavens. Dolly has opened doors for generations of singers, songwriters, musicians, and dreamers from every walk of life and across every continent,” Seaver says.

“After a life of wearing heavy rhinestones, she finally deserves to be comfortable.”

Dolly Parton passed at the age of 80.
