You can catch the longest partial lunar eclipse in nearly 600 years this month

The moon is up to something big this month… something eclipsing… Trust us, you’re going to want to stay up late for this one because the century’s longest blood moon lunar eclipse is set to rise in the skies all across Canada later this month. Here’s what you need to know!

The eclipse is set to last a whopping 3 hours, 28 minutes and 23 seconds according to NASA. To make matters even more intense, it’s going to be almost a total eclipse. The earth will block 98% of the sun’s light from reaching the moon creating a red hue, hence the ‘blood moon’ moniker. And best of all, you don’t need any fancy equipment to check it out, just the ability to stay up late.

Here are some good news stories from across Canada this past week

The lunar eclipse in Canada won’t kick off until the late evening, starting at 2 AM EST/12 AM MST/11 PM PST on the night of Thursday, November 18th and early morning of Friday, November 19th. However, since it’s such a long one, it won’t peak (show the best of its colours) until 2 hours or so after the start time. Yeah, maybe take a quick nap after work, so you’re not completely wiped out for Friday.

Now the only possible hindrance for this spectacular event is if it’s really cloudy. If so, you can watch a Livestream of the eclipse here which is also a great option for those of you who can’t stomach the idea of staying up until the wee hours.

Keep in mind this is also the last full moon of autumn so if you’re going to stay up for an astral event this year, let this be it. You can learn more by clicking here.
