It’s important to give props when it’s due! And these Canadian cities are getting just that but on a global scale. The new World’s Best Cities report for 2025 by Resonance Consultancy has been revealed and six of our beloved Canadian destinations made the ranking.

Resonance Consultancy, leading advisors in real estate, tourism, and economic development, released its annual list on Wednesday.

The exclusive ranking of the world’s top urban regions quantifies and benchmarks the “relative quality of place, reputation, and competitive identity of the planet’s metropolitan areas with a metro population of 1M or more,” according to the group.

But this year’s ranking is a little different.

According to Resonance, its new partnership with Ipsos incorporates what they call “perception-based data”.  More than 22,000 people in 30 countries were surveyed for the first time.

“By merging the top-of-mind destinations where people tell us they want to live, work and visit with the rigorous evaluation of place that Resonance has been conducting for a decade, we have created a more comprehensive evaluation of cities and can better advise destinations on how to strengthen their reputation,” shares Jason McGrath, Executive Vice President, Head of Corporate Reputation at Ipsos.

That being said, the world’s 100 top-performing cities include six in Canada.

What Canadian city is leading the pack?

According to the report, Toronto climbed up to 15th place compared to last year’s 23rd. “As Canada’s gateway for skilled immigrants, half of Toronto’s population was born outside the country,” shares the report. It also placed 7th for Educational Attainment and 3rd for Tree Cover.

The second Canadian city would be Vancouver in 22nd.

“With its addictive views, mild climate and multiculturalism—boasting the largest pan-Asian population outside of Asia—Vancouver is widely recognized as one of the most livable cities in the world,” shares the report too. Now that’s a win.

Here’s the full list of Canadian cities in the report;

  • Toronto #15
  • Vancouver #22
  • Montreal #35
  • Ottawa #52
  • Calgary #54
  • Edmonton #65

There’s no doubt that the World’s Best Cities report has reminded us of how lucky we are to live in these thriving urban destinations.
