There’s a lengthy wooden boardwalk & trail that circles an island lake in Ontario

Throw on that cozy sweater and head outdoors into the crisp autumn air! If you’re looking for the ultimate fall colour hike, you have to pay a visit to Island Lake Conservation Area. Boardwalks, glistening waters and a landscape painted in reds and yellows – here’s what to know.

Island Lake Conservation Area is located in the northeast region of Orangeville only an hour outside of Toronto.

What to know

Per Credit Valley Conservation, this area is composed of 820 acres of lake, wetland and forests.

In the fall, the scenery transforms into a vibrant palette of orange, gold, and red leaves.

There’s tons to do at this all-season destination, including hiking trails. There are five to choose from, one of them being the Vicki Barron Lakeside Trail.

This is the park’s signature eight-kilometre trail, that circles around the lake.

It’s also the best spot to enjoy vibrant fall colours!

There are several resting spots along the way so you can catch scenic vistas and even spot wildlife, including loons, ospreys, ducks, turtles, frogs, and muskrats.

This trail also guides you along a lakeside bridge that’s not only peaceful but also picture-perfect.

This is the only trail that spans as long as it does, according to the Credit Valley Conservation Area.

Fees

In order to access the Island Lake Conservation Area, you must pay the entry fee. Adults are priced at $7.75 while children aged six to 14 are $3.50.

The conservation area is open Monday to Friday from 7 AM to 9 PM and weekends/holidays from 6 AM to 9 PM.
