The mountains are calling, but will you answer? If you don’t mind getting your boots a little muddy, check out the Eaton Falls Trail in Willmore Wilderness Park, Alberta.
Located in west central Alberta just south of Grande Cache, this 7.1-kilometre hike is described as ‘perfect for all ages,’ despite its “hilly challenges.”
Here, adventure-seekers can take a clearly defined path from the Sulphur Gates Staging area under cliffs and towering trees, to a stunning waterfall—the trail’s namesake.
“After hiking for approximately 2 km, you’ll come across a moose antler sign marking the trail junction to Eaton Falls. Follow the trail to the right, which leads to the final .06 km to the falls,” explains Travel Alberta.
“The waterfall itself is a stunning sight, long and narrow through the rocky canyon.”
Interested? Be extra prepared!
While it’s often considered a family-friendly route, it can get pretty slippery and bears are not uncommon.
“It’s essential to keep in mind that grizzly and black bears inhabit the area,” they continue.
“Therefore, bring bear spray, and familiarize yourself with what to do if you encounter a bear.”
If you’d still like to visit, take precautions and store your food and garbage properly.
The falls are an impressive sight, but you’ll be heading into the “untamed wilderness.”
Stay safe and enjoy!
It’s a good one!
