This Alberta clinic provides free therapy from the comfort of your own home

The global pandemic might have come to an end but that doesn’t mean its impact has too. From readjusting to the old normal to adapting to the new normal, there’s plenty we’re dealing with right now. And this is in addition to all our other struggles, be it on a personal or professional level. Now, whether you need help managing stress and anxiety, need to learn coping mechanisms to heal from trauma or simply need a kind ear to talk to, Whittaker Wellness has got your back.

In case you haven’t already spotted them in your social feed, Whittaker Wellness is a virtual clinic that is offering free therapy sessions to any Albertan who needs it.
Like most of your other medical needs, this too is covered by the provincial government as long as you have a valid Alberta Healthcard. Which makes all the sense. It was about time mental wellness was considered a primary healthcare requirement.

The clinic offers CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy), DBT (dialectical behavioural therapy), trauma-focused therapy, EMDR and talk therapy. And since it’s a virtual clinic, your sessions will obviously take place online. So, you can work on your mental well-being from the comfort of your home. Plus, you can choose between an audio call or a video call depending on your level of comfort.

Just in case you were wondering— no, there is no limit to your free sessions. You can continue therapy for as long as you need. Then, with a mutual agreement between you and your counsellor, you can decide when you’re ready to discontinue.

To book a session, all you need is a referral from your family doctor or any walk-in clinic doctor. And the virtual clinic has made that easy too. There’s a referral form posted on their website. Just download the form (you can download it from HERE), take it to your doctor and get them to fax it to Whittaker Wellness.
