We’re entering a new year and if you’re wondering what’s open and closed on New Year’s Day in Seattle, we have you covered.

As New Year’s Day is one of the US’ 12 federal holidays, most government offices and some private businesses will be closed.

Closed

Closures on New Year’s Day include banks and credit unions, government offices, libraries, Seattle Art Museum, Museum of Pop Culture, and the King County Water Taxi.

Some closed businesses include Costco and Trader Joe’s.

Keep in mind, if you will be driving around the city, metered parking will not be enforced.

As for what’s open, the answer is more than you think. You will find some larger chain stores will remain open for normal hours.

Some of the stores that will be open include Pike Place Market, Walmart, Target, Safeway, Alberstons, Sprouts, and Whole Foods. Both Walgreens and CVS will also be open.

So if you want to get out of the house and get some shopping or errands done on the first day of 2024, you’ll have at least a few places to go.

Happy New Year!
