WestJet will soon have new international direct flights from Calgary & here’s where it’s flying to

There’s a chill in the air and ants in our pants, however, if you’re among those who can ride out the Alberta winter season, a new and exciting adventure could be a flight away come spring 2024.

As part of its big European expansion, Calgary-born carrier WestJet has announced another direct flight from its home city, this time to Reykjavik in Iceland.

It is important to mention that WestJet is aware of the current situation in the region and has consulted with local partners to announce their upcoming service from YYC International to Keflavik.

“We will continue to closely monitor volcanic activity in the region and follow the recommendations of local authorities,” said John Weatherill, Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer of WestJet Group.

According to the airline, this service underscores its commitment to affordably, connecting Canadians to some of the world’s most popular destinations and their corresponding airports – which they work closely with.

“WestJet’s service to Reykjavik will be further enhanced by the airline’s interline agreement with Icelandair,” they wrote, adding that this particular partnership will enable guests to travel with Icelandair and WestJet using one boarding pass, a single check-in and baggage tagged and checked to their final destination.

Sound impressive? It’s worth noting that WestJet will also be the only airline providing direct connectivity to Iceland from Calgary.

If of course, you’re interested and feel it’s safe to do so, you’ll have to wait until May 15th, 2024 to enjoy the 4 times weekly service, but it’s going to be an exciting season!

In addition to Iceland, Spring 2024 will also see increased services to Tokyo (daily), Rome (6 weekly), Barcelona (4 weekly) and Edinburgh (4 weekly) – so travellers rejoice!

Big things are happening and the world is getting easier to explore. Enjoy and happy exploring – no matter where you go.
