Renowned for its incredible scenery, Waterton has some of the most incredible hiking trails and outdoor activities in the province.
While it’s nearly impossible to choose the best and most beautiful, some of our favourite activities include paddling Lake Cameron, exploring Red Rock Canyon and taking the Bear’s Hump Trailhead to the top of Crandell Mountain for a panoramic view of the entire town and water below.
From art and jewelry, clothing books and outdoor gear, to incredible restaurants and cafes, Waterton might be small, but they’ve got plenty of stores and tasty eateries that’ll keep you fed and reaching for your credit card.

Need to relax? Waterton is the place. Here, guests can have a picnic, lay under a tree, grab a drink on the patio or get a massage at the Serenity Spa, which is located at the Bayshore Inn.
The season is coming to an end, but there’s still time to get a round of golf in. Opened in 1922, the historic Waterton Lakes Golf Course is a must-hit for those who must hit a ball or two before summer’s end.
Not only is it a fun course – but it’s also one of the most beautiful.
Mesmerized by the night sky? So are we. Waterton makes up half of the world’s first cross-border dark sky preserve. Here you can see the sights crystal clear on a nice night and take in the surrounding sights in one of Canada’s most beautiful parks.
Ready to head out?
While it’s a 5-hour and 38-minute drive from Edmonton’s city centre, it’s only less than 3 hours from Calgary, making it a perfect weekend trip or long trip if you’re from the City of Champions.
Waterton is one of those places that you have to see to believe – so get out there and explore. You won’t regret it.
