This train experience in Ontario takes you on a scenic ride along the Muskoka River

Hop on this scenic train experience in Ontario and feast your eyes on the beauty that is the Muskoka River, this fall. Train enthusiasts would love this one-of-a-kind experience. Here’s what to know.

You’ll feel as if you’re living in the 1900’s as you take a ride on Muskoka Heritage Place‘s Portage Flyer Train.

“It takes a great deal of skilled manpower and resourcefulness to keep a historic antiquated railway in operation but it’s all worth it,” shares organizers. “Just imagine yourself back in 1904, heading toward South Portage and Lake of Bays.”

The train leaves the Rotary Village Station and takes a  scenic trip along the Muskoka River onto Fairy Lake Station.

Fairy Lake was the original Purser’s Cabin at Norway Point Lake of Bays, according to Muskoka Heritage Place. “We encourage children of all ages to come and sit in the cab, poke your head in the firebox, and have a chat or ask questions of the engineer and fireman.”

The return trip is about 30 minutes which is just enough time to capture the beautiful scenery.

For the fall season, train rides are available from Tuesday to Friday at 1 PM, and Saturdays at 12 PM, 1 PM, 2 PM, and 3 PM.

Those interested must arrive 15 minutes before departure times to ensure they get a spot on the train.

And to get tickets, you can only get them that same day. Make sure to head to the station as it opens one hour prior to departure for ticket sales.

This train ride is only available until October 7th so hop on before it’s too late.
