The Rockies have come to life! From the most charming towns to peaks covered in white, there is nothing more beautiful than the mountains in the winter – except maybe, the many frozen waterfalls scattered through Alberta.
If of course, you’re not sure where to catch a glimpse next time you’re in the area, here are just a few you can visit this year.

Located just off Highway 3 only minutes from Cowley, Lundbreck is scenic, romantic and underrated. The best part? With an observation deck right beside its parking lot, there’s no hiking involved – which, in the winter months. we’re thankful for.

There is no place like the Rockies and this winter you can experience the ice and snow as if it was the very first time! At Maligne Canyon, not only can you explore icy passages, and the canyon floor but you can also see some majestic waterfalls as well. You’ll hardly believe your eyes!

Located an hour south of Nordegg, this Alberta park has a campground and hiking trails that you can enjoy in the summer and a big beautiful frozen waterfall in the winter. Enjoy!

If you know, you know. Johnston Canyon is one of Banff’s best-known hiking trails and while it’s popular with families and dogs in the warmer months, we’d only recommend visiting if you’re experienced and have the right gear. It’s truly magic.

A series of three different waterfalls, Siffleur is located just south of Nordegg a short distance from the David Thompson Highway. Interested? This enchanted forest shouldn’t be missed if you’re in the area., especially in the winter.

Located in Jasper National Park, 7.4 km north of the Icefields Centre along the Icefields Parkway, you’ll find Tangle Creek – a site at its most beautiful in the winter. In the warmer months, those passing through can dip their toes and get up close in personal – but when temperatures drop, it’s not unusual to see people climbing it during the day.

Located in Banff National Park off the famous Columbia Icefields, this Alberta beauty has been described as an ‘icy fortress’ in the wintertime and is the perfect stop if you’re into photography or (later in the season) ice climbing!
