If there’s one thing that we’ve learned over the last couple of years, it’s that distributors love Alberta. For this reason, it should come as no surprise that world-renowned superstore, Walmart, will open a $118 million fulfillment centre just outside of Calgary this summer.
Creating jobs and quicker service for those who frequently order from the megachain, this 430,000 square feet development is just one of the many ways Walmart says will expand and revolution nice its “best-in-class supply chain network,” within Canada.
“We are tremendously proud to be investing in a new fulfillment centre in the Calgary area,” said Horacio Barbeito, President and CEO of Walmart Canada. “This modern facility will provide our associates with the latest logistics technology to improve our supply chain.”

According to a recent statement, not only will this mean that not only will more products be available to those in the area (500,000 to be exact), but more orders will be fulfilled in a quicker amount of time.
In fact, the company says that they’ll soon be able to offer two-day shipping to 61% of Canadians – similarly to their competitors at Amazon.
“This is how we’re transforming our operations to meet the needs of Albertans and all Canadians.”
