Hot air balloons are a magical sight – one that we don’t get to see very often. So when the opportunity comes to see one or a few, you really don’t want to pass it up. The 47th annual Walla Walla Balloon Stampede takes place this month and here’s what to know and expect.
Between May 11th and 14th, 30 balloons will rise into the air at Howard Tietan Park. The official fly days begin on May 12th with balloons launching around 5:30 AM-6 AM, depending on weather. There’s also a “Nite Glow Spectacular” on the 12th complete with “Dueling Banjos.”
You can get to the park early to watch them launch, or simply keep your eyes on the skies each morning of the event. If that’s not enough though, you can also fly on one.

If you’re ready to experience something new you can book a select few flights to fly among the other ballons in the stampede. You’ll get to enjoy stunning panoramic views as you soar over the vineyards, rolling hills, and stunning countryside during this epic festival.
Flights cost $400 per person so it definitely is on the pricier side but who knows when else you’ll be able to fly in a hot air balloon. Keep in mind that the festival is coming up quickly and there are only a few flight times left so if you want to book do so ASAP.
