Big news, adventure seekers. The Government of Canada has just announced a new program that will get frequent flyers through airport security faster – giving eligible Canadians more time to pack a bag or get coffee before their departure.
According to Minister of Transport, Omar Alghabra, the Verified Traveller Program will provide a quick and efficient screening experience for those eligible at select airports across Canada.

Starting June 21, 2023, members of NEXUS and Global Entry, active members of the Armed Forces (with a valid ID), and international aircrew in uniform (with a valid ID) will be able to enjoy hassle-free travel with the replacement of Canada’s old Trusted Traveller program.
RCMP, police officers and constables with a badge and valid ID will also be able to get to their plane with more ease and even some time to spare.
Not only do these travellers get to keep their laptops, large electronics, compliant liquids and gels in their carry-on, but they’ll also be able to keep their shoes, belt and a light jacket on during security screening at dedicated Verified Traveller lines at the following airports:
In addition, this program will allow children (17 or younger) and adults (75 years of age and older) to accompany verified travellers through security, as long as they are on the same reservation – but that’s not all!
Several airports will also offer travellers front-of-line service and additional benefits at transborder checkpoints.
“CATSA plays a crucial role in keeping our air sector safe. As the sector entered recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic, we saw how important it was to have a smooth and efficient security screening regime for air passengers,” said Alghabra.
“This new Verified Traveller program builds on our $1.8 billion investment for CATSA in Budget 2023 and is great news as we enter another busy travel season to help combat congestion at our airports. It will help improve the security screening process for eligible travellers at select airports across Canada, while still ensuring we meet the highest standards of security and safety for air passengers.”
It’s going to be a long hot sunny season, Canada, so it’s nice to know that with the Verified Traveller Program, more people will be able to get to their summer destinations faster than ever before. Enjoy!
