A new list that looks at Google Trends to determine the growth of veganism around the world has found that Vancouver can hang with the best of them. In fact, we’re the only Canadian city to have landed on the list! Let’s check it out, shall we?
The report comes from the online foodie publication Chef’s Pencil. Basically, they dove into Google Trends to see how often people searched for stuff related to veganism for the first seven months of the year. That includes not only different languages but also things like ‘vegan restaurants near me’.

Then, those searches are weighted against the population’s total searches to get a score out of 100. So the top city, Bristol, must absolutely live for vegan food because it got a score of 100. Meanwhile, Vancouver, which came in 9th, received a score of 62.
Which is pretty fair, all things considered. While veganism in Vancouver hasn’t fully taken over, there’s no denying that things are getting better and better each year. All you have to do is look at all the new vegan spots that have popped up to confirm.
