If you’re looking for a new movie to get excited about, mark your calendars for July 2023, when Vancouver-filmed Joy Ride officially hits the silver screen. The Lionsgate film marks Adele Lim’s feature directorial debut, written by Cherry Chevapravatdumrong and Teresa Hsiao, and produced in part by Vancouver’s own Seth Rogen.
As for who you can see onscreen, Joy Ride stars Oscar-nominee Stephanie Hsu, Ashley Park (Emily In Paris) Sherry Cola, and comedian Sabrina Wu.
According to the SXSW schedule, the raunchy comedy dives into the identities of four unlikely friends, who all embark on an international adventure together when Audrey’s (Ashley Park) business trip goes sideways.
“Their no-holds-barred, epic experience becomes a journey of bonding, friendship, belonging, and wild debauchery that reveals the universal truth of what it means to know and love who you are.”
Much of the movie was filmed in Vancouver back in 2021. An iconic location to look out for in multiple scenes? Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden!
The film premiered its trailer at SXSW on Friday, March 17th, which is now available on Youtube. In terms of when you can see it in theatres, mark your calendars for July 7th.
