Throughout each corner of the city, you can find installations that will have you saying, “Wait, what’s happening here?”
So whether you’re an art lover or on the hunt for your next photo op, these unconventional art installations will make you see the city in a whole new way.
Okay, imagine this: you’re walking through East Village and stumble upon a church, but wait, it’s upside down.
That’s Dennis Oppenheim’s Device to Root Out Evil sculpture. It’s one of the most recognized sculptures in the world and has made its return to Calgary after five years of travelling to different countries.

Rundle LRT Station isn’t just a spot to catch the CTrain; it’s also home to three eccentric art benches that will have you taking a second (or third) look.
Designed by Karen Ho Fatt, these benches each have a distinct style.
The traditional bench honours immigrant families and long-time residents, the transitional bench symbolizes generational and cultural connections, and the modern-style bench was designed for the younger generation.
These seats turn waiting for the train into a mini adventure.

The Convergence sculpture at the Rocky Ridge Recreational facility is impossible to miss.
The installation showcases two giant 14-metre-high mirrored sculptures, and the softened metal finish allows for light to beautifully reflect off the structure. As you walk around the installation, you will notice how it shifts, giving you the illusion that it has morphed into one, making it feel truly alive.
The installation was inspired by bison, flocks of birds, and the local landscape surrounding Alberta.

Now you’ve probably driven past this bright blue ring on your way to the airport- but have you ever stopped to dive into the story behind it?
The Travelling Light is a gigantic 17-metre sculpture that was created to frame the city and add a splash of colour!
It’s so big that you may even catch a little glimpse of it on your next flight.

Picture this: a single drop of water, frozen mid-splash, made into a 70-foot-tall steel sculpture. Yes, it’s real!
In 2024, UK-based artist Gary Juddah created a new centrepiece for the BMO Centre Plaza.
He designed the installation using over 200 steel tubes, which are intended to give the sculpture a delicate feel, despite its large size.
