Get in, we’re going landmark hopping! While there are some truly bizarre sights to see on the road across Alberta, few are as out of this world as the World’s first UFO Landing Pad in the town of St. Paul.

Located northeast of Edmonton, St. Paul describes itself as a ‘people kind of place,’ though they’ve also rolled out the red carpet for alien lifeforms looking for a pitstop.

Built in celebration of being named the Centennial Capital of Canada, this unusual structure opened on June 3rd, 1967 in the midst of what is now widely known as the space race – a topic that dominated pop culture.

“The area under the World’s First UFO Landing Pad was designated international by the Town of St. Paul as a symbol of our faith that mankind will maintain the outer universe free from national wars and strife,” a sign next to the pad reads.

“That future travel in space will be safe for all intergalactic beings, all visitors from Earth or otherwise are welcome to this territory and to the Town of St. Paul.”

In addition to holding the world record for being the first of its kind, the pad also holds a special place in the heart of most locals and serves as a unique identifier for this small spot in the Prairies.

Can’t get enough of E.T. talk? Their visitor information centre also has a UFO exhibit with photos of crop circles and unidentified flying objects.

It’s truly unlike anywhere else – so check it out!

Heck, maybe you’ll get lucky and you’ll see someone or something park their craft. You never know!
