We don’t know about you, but we’re itching to explore more of British Columbia before summer ends – especially seeing as how our province is home to so many globally-recognized destinations! This includes Tumbler Ridge, a dream destination in BC and one of only five geoparks in Canada.
For those who may not know, a geopark is designated by UNESCO for its international geological significance. At Tumbler Ridge, there are 34 geosites accessible to the public, including alpine meadows, mountain peaks, ancient glaciers, canyons, caves, karst formations, and 10 incredible waterfalls.
Oh, and world-class dinosaur trackways and fossils!
The cascading Kinuseo Falls, for one, is considered the gem of the geopark, the largest in the region surrounded by a cooling mist.
There’s also the famed Shipyard Rock Formations at the base of Babcock Mountain, which consist of gravity-defying rock towers that are unlike anything else in the world.
Visitors can also spot everything from renewable energy wind farms, metallurgical coal mines, and forestry operations at the park, according to Tumbler Ridge Tourism. In terms of recreational opportunities, you can explore dozens of beautiful hiking trails, of river boating, horseback riding, or ice climbing and snowshoeing during the winter months.
With new discoveries made at the geopark every year, it’s definitely worth a visit to Tumbler Ridge. When are you planning your visit?!
