Hop on a vintage streetcar & travel back in time with old school TTC relics this weekend

The TTC is celebrating 100 years of servicing the Toronto community and they’re bringing back their vintage TTC streetcars for all to explore.

On August 20, from 10 AM to 2 PM, transit lovers, customers, and all are invited to check out the closing celebrations at the TTC’s Hillcrest complex. Visitors will be able to step foot inside vintage TTC streetcars, and newer models and browse through the TTC pop-up shop for some souvenirs.

“We’ve come a long way since 1921, with more than 32 billion customers served, and I want to say a big thank you to the employees — past and present, and our customers for making this milestone possible,” said TTC CEO Rick Leary in a release.

“We are also looking forward to celebrating the students who submitted winning entries to the TTC100 contest, and shared their vision for the next 100 years of transit in Toronto.”

There will also be a charity barbeque at the event, with proceeds going to the United Way, according to the TTC.

The event is free to attend and eager riders are encouraged to take the 7 Bathurst bus from Bathurst Station, and get off at Bathurst Street at Bridgman Avenue to enter the complex.

On top of all that, a free shuttle will be available between the event and the Toronto Archives building. This is where visitors can see the TTC 100 Years of Moving Toronto Exhibit. It also features historical tokens from the 1950s, tickets, and the first Metropasses from the early ’80s.

Travel back in time and explore a bit of history this weekend.
