A total solar eclipse is around the corner in Ontario. On April 8th, 2024 the rare celestial event is set to unfold and the solar eclipse’s path of totality will pass through some cities and towns in the province. There are many spots to view the eclipse and there are even some experiences in Ontario you can take part in while viewing it.

According to NASA, “A total solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, completely blocking the face of the Sun. The sky will darken as if it were dawn or dusk.”
Fort Henry National Historic Site is in Kingston, which will be in the direct path of totality. Enjoy live music, guest speakers, an escape game from Improbable Escapes, an artisan market, children’s activities, and games plus free eclipse glasses will be available on site.
When: April 8th, 2024 from 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Where: Fort Henry National Historic Site, 1 Fort Henry Dr, Kingston, ON

Experience the eclipse from the water! Also located in Kingston, 1000 Island Cruises is offering a three-hour cruise with passed appetizers, a complimentary drink, and an exclusive unobstructed view of this once-in-a-lifetime event from the vessel’s top deck.
Specialty viewing glasses will be provided with the purchase of a ticket.
When: April 8th, 2024 at 2:00 PM
Where: Departing from Crawford Wharf at 1 Brock St, Kingston, ON
Cost: $88.50 + HST per adult or child ticket
Join Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) in celebrating the eclipse!
According to TRCA, Guided tour start times are staggered throughout the day, to ensure that groups can reach their destination in time for the eclipse. All guided tours will end at 4:00 PM when Tommy Thompson Park officially opens, at which point participants are welcome to either walk back to the entrance with their leader or extend their visit in the park.”
Each ticket includes a guided interpretive tour and a pair of solar eclipse glasses

Cost: $15 + HST per ticket
Niagara Falls Tourism is putting on a full day of festivities for the eclipse – including ending the day off with a free concert!
Not only does it share the best spots around Niagara Falls to view the eclipse, but also the full concert line which includes: The Glorious Sons, JJ WIlde, New Friends, The Boneheads and Niagara Symphony Orchestra.
When: April 8th, 2024, concerts from 2:40 PM – 8:30 PM
Where: Queen Victoria Park, 6345 Niagara River Pkwy, Niagara Falls, ON
Cost: Free admission
Another spot in the Niagara region holding an eclipse experience is at Ravine Vineyard Estate Winery. Join in as people gather to witness the eclipse. Guests will be treated to a welcome drink, along with delicious food served throughout the afternoon.
When: April 8th, 2024, from 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Where: Ravine Vineyard Estate Winery, 1366 York Road Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON
Cost: $144.72 per adult ticket & $31.59 per child ticket (ages 11-18)
