There are a few things that make the holiday season feel complete in Toronto — the Christmas Market, the Hudson’s Bay window displays, and The Nutcracker ballet. After last year’s missed season, The National Ballet of Canada has announced that the show is finally returning this December with new safety measures in place.
Toronto is known for having “one of the finest versions” of this magnificent two-act ballet, which premiered in Russia in 1892. The set design, costumes, and orchestra give the whole experience such a magical feel.
The show will be taking place at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts as it does every year. This season, though, you’ll notice some changes to the cast of performers.

There will be no children under 12 in this season’s Nutcracker and all of the children’s roles will be performed by students in Canada’s National Ballet School. All of the cast and crew will also be fully vaccinated.
Sadly, we won’t see any celebrity guests take on the role of Cannon Dolls this year. We’ll just have our memories of Kyle Lowry and Auston Matthews taking the stage in their doll costumes to tide us over until next year.
Tickets to the ballet go on sale on Tuesday, October 5th, so mark your calendar! The show will run from December 10th to the 31st.
