Toronto will be so frigid tonight that it’s set to be ‘the coldest air in years’

Brace yourselves, folks. If you thought Toronto’s weather couldn’t possibly get any colder than it has already this season, we’ve got some unfortunate news. According to The Weather Network (TWN), southern Ontario is set to get hit with what could be “the coldest air in years” tonight and yes, that includes the Toronto area.

While the high in Toronto will feel like a frigid -20 C with the wind chill today, the overnight temperatures are set to feel even colder at -27 C. Surrounding cities like Whitby and Newmarket will feel like -30 C and Barrie -32 C.

Tonight is set to be the first time temperatures have dropped to -20 C in nearly two years in the city, reports TWN.

Cities around the GTA will also get hit with snow tonight. According to Environment Canada, parts of Durham Region and York Region will get hit with up to 15 cm of snow by Tuesday morning. Toronto might get some light overnight snowfall too.

The good news is that temperatures will warm back up on Wednesday, climbing to 2 C before dropping back down to -2 C on Thursday.

As for what the rest of the season has in store, TWN predicts that a  “come and go” winter will bring both stormy weather and extended mild weather to Ontario.

With the exception of an active storm that’ll bring tons of snow to the province, most of the season’s storms will be a “messy mix of snow, ice, and rain,” especially in southern regions.

If you’re not looking forward to bundling up this winter in Ontario, it looks like you won’t have to for long. The heart of the season “will lack persistent severe cold” in both provinces, says TWN.
