If you’ve been thinking about adding a new furry bestie to your life, this may be a good time to do so. The City of Toronto says it is waiving adoption fees, but it’s for a limited time.
“We have too many pets in our shelters!” states the City’s Adopt a Pet page.
“To empty our shelters and help give pets the homes they deserve, we have waived the pet adoption fees until September 2.”
The city made the announcement on their social media page as well during International Dog Day.
“We need your help to create awareness of these beautiful boys and girls who need adoption like Blossom, David, Johnny, Donald, Pistachio, Velma, Sanderson, and Dex,” they said.
The City has also shared photos of some of the shelter dogs who are patiently waiting for their new owners.
Their ages range from 8 months to 8-years-old.
The City has outlined “things to consider before you adopt,” which includes the commitment to care for a pet, as well as how much a space and time you have.
“This can be up to 20 years. For a shorter commitment, consider adopting an older pet,” they said. “Dogs and cats need exercise, play and companionship every day.”
Adoption fees for a male dog is usually $185, and for a female it is $215.
You can view the pets available for adoption online through the City, or call 416-338-PAWS.
Be sure to do so by September 2nd!
