There’s a free Filipino festival coming to Vancouver for one day only

Summer’s not over yet, and there’s a free festival coming up in Vancouver next week that you won’t want to miss. A vibrant celebration of Filipino culture and food, the second annual Kamayan Festival is set to transform the City Centre Artist Lodge on Main Street into a hub for Filipinx vendors to engage with the community.

The word “kamayan” refers to the age-old Filipino practice of eating with bare hands, signifying togetherness and connection. As such, the Kamayan Festival will pay tribute to all the delicious traditions of the Philippines, from savoury adobo to sweet halo-halo prepared by renowned Chef Mark Singson and other talented local chefs.

In addition to tasty bites, this year’s festival will include live performances by local Filipinx artists for the first time, including shows by hip-hop artist Kimmortal and the legendary DJ Niña Mendoza – to name a couple.

“Kamayan Fest is about celebrating the beautiful nuances of Filipino culture in all its forms,” says LJ Cajigas, co-founder of the festival. “From the food to the performances, we’re creating an experience that invites everyone to connect with our heritage and with each other.”

The festival maintains its commitment to supporting small businesses by offering free vendor spaces, as well as free admission to all visitors.

The festival will take place at the City Centre Artist Lodge and the newly added 6th Avenue closure on Sunday, September 8th from 11 am to 6 pm.

So mark your calendars, Vancouver!
