Toronto Public Library offers more than just books. Did you know that library card holders can enroll in free online courses? Yep, from the comfort of your home, you can learn about topics in various sectors including healthcare, language and arts, law, and technology.

The courses are offered by Gale Courses, each led by instructors and spanning six weeks.

If your New Year’s resolution is to learn something new, this is the perfect opportunity.

So, what’s available to enroll in? A shocking amount of courses if you ask me.

There are 12 sectors with each offering a variety of courses and topics that fall within that category.

The 12 sectors include:

For Writing and Publishing, for example, some of the topics you can learn about include Business Writing, Creative Writing and Grant Writing.

New sessions for every course begin each month.

How to enroll for Toronto Public Library online courses

Now that you know what’s available it’s time to enroll and trust me, it’s easy peasy.

Once you’ve found the course you want to take and the start date that works best for you, select “Enroll Now.” From here, you’ll need to create a free Gale Courses account or sign in to an existing account.

The “New Student” page will ask you for your email address and to enter all your information. You’ll also be asked to enter your library barcode. Click “Use Library Card” to complete your enrollment – all done!

When your course begins, you’ll be able to log in and out to review your material.
