The Toronto Group Chat: What your friends are talking about this week (June 9)

Hey, Toronto, what’s up?! Your group chat is popping off, and we’re here to keep the good times going. Welcome to another week of the Toronto Group Chat. This is your weekly rundown of the city’s biggest and hottest updates. Here, you’ll find all the stuff you actually want to share in your group chat. Every week, we’re dishing out five must-know highlights of what’s going on in the city or stories you need to know about.

Maybe people are already talking about it, or maybe you’ll start the conversation? Let your friends know.

Check out what’s new in Toronto. Let’s get into it.

Did you hear, Toronto?

Taste of Little Italy is this weekend

If Taste of Little Italy will be anything like Do West Fest this past weekend, we’re going to get some great food, live music, and shopping.

It’s going down on Friday, June 12, taking over parts of College Street from Bathurst Street to Shaw Street, until Sunday, June 14. Street festivals are a summer indicator for Toronto, and we can’t help but get excited — we’re outside!

Charlie XCX announced tour dates and Toronto is getting a show

Alright, let’s get straight to the point. Charlie XCX is bringing her Music, Fashion, Film Tour to Canada, and we’re getting a show in Toronto. We’re not about to play around when it comes to tickets. It’s time to gather the girls and decide who’s putting the tickets on their card.

Presale access is available now through Wednesday, June 10, until 11 p.m. Presale tickets go live Friday, June 12, at 9 a.m.

The FIFA World Cup kicks off this week, and it’s going to be wild

Toronto will be the city that won’t sleep – at least during the FIFA World Cup. Since we’re hosting a few of the games, and there are a ton of activations throughout the tournament for all to enjoy, dull moments will cease to exist these next few weeks. From watch parties to the FIFA Fan Festival, the options are endless, and it’s all in the name of supporting the Canadian Men’s National team, right?

The FIFA World Cup kicks off with Mexico vs. South Africa at 3 p.m. this Thursday, before our beloved Canadian team takes the field on Friday against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Great, it’s going to be a rainy week in the city

BUT OF COURSE, one of the busiest weeks in the city is going to be anything but sunny, according to The Weather Network. On the bright side (poor choice of words), temperatures will still feel relatively warm, with Thursday reaching a high of 29°C, but feeling more like 38°C.

Risk of thunderstorms looms throughout the week, but a little rain hasn’t stopped us from having some fun.

Keychains, soccer and a good cause

It’s Pride month, Toronto. If you want to take full advantage of all the exciting events going on in the city, Kimpton Saint George is hosting Kickoffs and Keychains, a Pride AND soccer-inspired creative workshop. It’s all in an effort to celebrate community, self-expression, and connection, according to organizers.

Expect an evening of custom keychain and carabiner decorating, music, game day snacks from Purplesful, and the best vibes. Wear your fave soccer jersey too – we’re celebrating!

RSVP can be made online, and entry is a minimum $5 donation. All proceeds will go towards Friends of Ruby. Kimpton Saint George will match all proceeds up to $200.

It’s taking place on Monday, June 22, at 5 p.m.

And that’s all for now, Toronto. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered for next week. See you then!
