Toronto is under a special weather statement for a spring storm this weekend

Spring showers are coming our way this weekend. Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement and the Toronto forecast is showing some nasty conditions ahead.

According to the statement, areas across the GTA will be hit with freezing rain and powerful winds throughout Saturday.

“A risk of freezing rain is possible early Saturday morning, which will rapidly transition to rain Saturday morning as temperatures quickly rise above zero,” says Environment Canada.

Those planning to travel on Saturday morning may have their plans affected.

Along with the rain, powerful wind gusts of 70 or 80 km/h are also expected on Saturday and into Saturday night.

“Given the forecast of these strong winds, local power outages are possible.”

This advisory provides an overview of what to expect, but the exact details of the coming storm are still uncertain.

Residents are asked to keep an eye on the Toronto forecast for any changes or updates.

As for what the rest of the season has in store for Ontario, meteorologists at Environment Canada say southern Ontario can expect near-normal spring weather in most areas.

Environment Canada’s predictions are a bit more optimistic than The Weather Network’s.

The weather outlet released its spring forecast in Canada on March 1st, saying that “most Canadians will need to be patient as we wait for consistent warm weather” in March, April, and May.

It looks like we’ll just have to wait and see what Mother Nature has in store — and keep our umbrellas handy in the meantime!
