This Ontario park has a trail that leads to a thundering gorge between steep cliffs

We’re blessed with the most stunning natural views in Ontario and this next one is definitely a sight to behold. Tucked away in northeastern Ontario is a hidden gem that nature lovers can’t resist exploring – the Eau Claire Gorge Conservation Area. You’ll find dramatic flows of water that cascades into a massive gorge. Here’s what to know.
It’s an almost four-hour drive north of Toronto, closer to the Quebec border near North Bay.
If you find yourself in the area, do yourself a favour and explore Eau Claire Gorge Conservation Area.
The most spectacular scenic feature of this land is the gorge itself, and the views will leave you speechless.
The Amable du Fond River flows between steep rock walls in a dramatic series of rapids and waterfalls, according to the North Bay Mattawa Conservation Authority
“Millions of years ago, the bedrock split and dropped one side, creating the fault ridge that extends throughout the Conservation Area,” shares the conservation group.
“Glacier movement and erosion from the river flow have carved out the majesty of the thundering gorge along this ridge.”
There’s a 1.9 km self-guided interpretive trail that uncovers the area’s rich history.

You will learn about its past, as far back as the 1870s when the Mackey Lumber Company ruled these lands.
The remnants of a log slide and dam they constructed still stand as silent witnesses to their past.
Along the trail, you’ll also come across a logger’s cabin which was reconstructed in 1989.
It’s important to note that this cabin is for day use only. No overnight stays or campfires allowed!
But let’s not forget the star of the show – the waterfall.
It plummets 40 feet through a narrow pass and is an awe-inspiring spectacle that’ll have you reaching for your camera.
However, be prepared for a bit of a workout!
It’s a hilly terrain and you’ll need to watch out for slippery railway ties, says the Ontario Trails Council.
It’s not recommended for young children, given the height of the gorge.
